Switch accounts - Accounts

Switch accounts

If you'd like to change your existing ANZ transaction account to one that suits you better, it's easy to make the switch - and our switching service won't cost you a thing.

How it works

Simply choose the account you want and we'll take care of the switch for you. There are three accounts to choose between when switching:

We'll transfer the balance from your current account (less any outstanding fees) as well as any automatic payments, bill payments, direct debits or overdrafts you have set up.

You'll see the new balance on your next bank statement. Your account number won't change and you'll still be able to use your existing ANZ Night & Day card and cheque book - they won't need to be re-issued.

Accounts that can be switched

You can switch any of the ANZ accounts listed below to an ANZ Everyday Account, ANZ Control or ANZ Advantage.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be better off switching to a new account?

It depends on whether your existing account suits the way you bank - for example, if you use EFTPOS a lot but don't want to have to keep track of how many times you use it in a month, an ANZ Everyday account offers a set monthly fee, regardless of how many EFTPOS transactions or ANZ ATM withdrawals you make.

Will it cost me to switch my account?

You won't pay a thing - the switching service is free to personal customers.

What fees will I pay for an ANZ Everyday account or an ANZ Advantage?
How will my fees be displayed on my next statement?

At the time you switch your account, you will have current fees and charges calculated at your existing fee plan up until that day.

You will then be charged a pro-rata amount for the balance of the month at your new fee plan (e.g. 15 days at $5 per month = $2.50).

What if I have an overdraft on my existing account?

We'll transfer your overdraft to your new account and you'll pay the fees and interest rates that apply to that account - that is, debit interest on the amount of the overdraft you use each day and a credit facility fee of approximately $5 per month ($60 a year).

What if I want to switch to a Student or Graduate Account?

Before you can open one of these accounts, we need to confirm that you meet the appropriate criteria. Check what you need:

Can I switch my business account?
