Healthy home tips
Here are some simple tips for making your home warmer, drier and healthier.
Staying warm
Mind the gaps
Gaps around windows and doors can let cold air and moisture in – and let heat out. Consider buying or making draught stoppers to cover any gaps.
Draw the curtain on heat loss
Stop heat escaping through windows by insulating them with good curtains. You’ll get the best results if your curtains have a double layer, are flush to the wall on both sides and touch the ground, or hang on closed curtain tracks.
Let the sunshine in
Sunshine is a free heat source, so open your curtains or blinds fully during the day. Make sure you close them as it gets cold or dark to keep that heat in.
Pump it up
If you can, heat your home regularly through winter to keep it warmer and drier. Heat pumps are the best, most efficient heating option.
Staying dry
Open wide
It may seem counter-productive, but opening your windows (and doors) wide for half an hour a day lets moist air out and fresh, dry air in. That makes it easier to heat your home - and helps stop mould forming.
Keep a lid on it
When you’re cooking, put lids on pots and pans to avoid steam escaping.
Hit the fan
Your home should have extractor fans in bathrooms and cooking areas – make sure you use them to get steam and moist air out of your home.
Get out more
Drying your washing outside not only saves you money, it also keeps your home drier - one load of washing can release several litres of water into the air. If you do use a dryer, make sure it’s ventilated to the outside.
Go with the flow
Clear your gutters or spouting regularly to ensure water flows away from your property – not into it.
Wipe it away
If you have condensation on your windows or walls, wipe it up with a towel or cloth.
Put the acid on mould
If you have mould, stop it spreading by cleaning it thoroughly using soap and water, vinegar (ensuring to clean the vinegar off well afterwards), or methylated spirits.

Frequently asked questions
Who is eligible for the offer?
ANZ customers.
How will I know if my house might need insulation?
If your house was built before 2007, then it may be underinsulated or un-insulated and therefore may be colder than newer houses. Houses built after 2007 should be fully insulated.
How do I know if I qualify?
• You have provided ANZ with a mortgage over the house you want insulated or heat pump/s installed in.
• You have not previously had an interest-free loan for the same purpose (i.e. a loan for insulation or a loan for heat pump/s) for the same property.
• You satisfy the requirements of our lending criteria.
I’m not a customer, am I still eligible?
Only existing customers are eligible, however if you transferred your lending and gave ANZ a mortgage over the house you want insulated or heat pump/s installed in, you would become eligible to apply.
I have several houses, how many loans can I apply for?
You can apply for only two interest-free loans per residential security held with ANZ – one for insulation and one for a heat pump. This offer is limited to two securities, therefore a maximum of four loans.
How much can I get?
Each loan is limited to a maximum of $5,000 or the value of the quote, whichever is lower.
What will my repayments be?
You can apply the following calculation, take the total loan amount and divide it over the exact period taken to repay it. For example, if you were to take out the maximum loan of $5,000 over four years, your repayments would be approximately $50 each fortnight.
I know the loan is interest-free, but are there any other fees or charges?
• There are no application or establishment fees.
• Other fees and charges may apply. See rates, fees and agreements for a full list of fees and charges.

What is a “reputable” installer?
A company that installs insulation and/or heat pumps as part of its usual business. The quote must be on letterhead or be an email from a business email address.

Can the loan be set up as interest only?
No, regular principal repayments are required over the term of the loan.
What loan term can I have for my interest-free loan?

How long is this offer available for?

I have a quote for $8,000 to insulate my property. Can I still get an interest-free insulation loan?
Yes, but only $5,000 will be interest-free. The remaining $3,000 of the quote will be subject to our lending criteria and interest rates advertised at the time.
Can I get more than one heat pump installed?
Yes, but only if they are on the same quote and only $5,000 will be interest-free. Any remaining balance will be subject to our lending criteria and interest rates advertised at the time.
