Transcript - Applying for insurance

It’s a good feeling to get your life insurance sorted. It’s the peace of mind of knowing that, should the unexpected happen, things will be a bit easier financially.

So if you’ve been putting it off … because it all seems too hard … here’s a quick run-down of what’s involved. It’s probably easier than you think.

There are 5 simple steps to getting it sorted…

Step #1: Understand your needs

We’ll start by asking you some questions – to get an idea of your situation, and your financial position.

Step #2: Choose the right cover

Based on what you’ve told us, we’ll provide a few different cover options for you to consider.

You choose whichever one is right for you, or you can customise the cover so that it suits your particular needs. It’s important your chosen cover fits comfortably within your budget so you can cover the regular premium payments.

These generally increase each year based on your change in age.

Step #3: You apply for cover

If you would like to proceed with the cover, you’ll complete an application, where you’ll be asked a series of health and lifestyle questions.

It’s important to answer these fully and accurately. If you don’t, it could cause your future claims to be declined.

So if you’re not sure whether something’s relevant – it’s always best to disclose it, just in case.

Step #4: Everything is assessed

The assessment is completed by the insurance provider, Cigna. If they need any more information, they may get in touch with you, or request it from your doctor.

Sometimes, based on your health and lifestyle, they may need to offer you amended terms, such as an increased premium or a policy exclusion.

Step #5: You're covered!

Once you’ve been accepted and issued your policy, you’ll receive a policy document and schedule.

When you receive your policy, please carefully review that all details are correct.

One last tip: make sure you keep your policy document somewhere safe, and let your loved ones know where to find it.
