David is CEO of ANZ New Zealand and a member of ANZ's Group Executive committee. During his 30-plus year career at ANZ, David has held a number of senior executive roles in retail and commercial banking, including Global Head of Retail from 2015-2016, head of ANZ's global Commercial segment between 2008 and 2014 and Managing Director of UDC Finance between 1998 and 2000. In 2013 he won the Asian Banker CEO Leadership Achievement Award for New Zealand for the successful merger of The National Bank and ANZ. In 2015 David became a ‘Champion for Change’, a leader actively committed to diversity of thought and inclusiveness from all those who work for and with ANZ.

David Bricklebank

David is responsible for legal and corporate governance matters for ANZ and its New Zealand businesses.

Before accepting this role, David was Associate General Counsel for ANZ New Zealand since 2012, with responsibilities for Retail, Wealth, Business Banking and the Corporate Centre during that time.  Prior to ANZ he has held senior roles, working as Assistant General Counsel at Telecom and working in financial services in London for 10 years, including working for global funds management company Henderson Global Investors.  

Michael Bullock

Michael is responsible for ANZ’s Technology and Project portfolio along with Supplier Shared Services and Property functions. Michael leads teams that provide technical and operational support enabling ANZ to deliver a huge range of products and services to its customers. Michael is a member of the ANZ Global payment leadership team and an active contributor to ANZ's Enterprise delivery solutions. An experienced international banker, Michael has more than 23 years’ experience in the finance and banking sector.

Astrud Burgess

Astrud is responsible for the continued growth and development of New Zealand’s largest financial services brand. Her team support our Retail & Business Banking, Commercial & Agri, Wealth, UDC, and Institutional businesses with brand, marketing and sponsorship activities.

Over the last 20 years Astrud has held a variety of senior marketing roles in the financial services sector and with advertising agencies in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

She has a Masters in Marketing Management from Otago University.

Michelle Russell

Michelle is responsible for leading people strategies, programmes and policies to support the employee experience for ANZ’s 8,000 employees in New Zealand. Michelle has been at ANZ in a variety of human resources and business roles since 2005.

Paul Goodwin

Paul leads the market-leading Institutional Banking team, which manages ANZ's relationships with large corporate and institutional clients and provides the bank’s customers with specialised markets, transactional and financing solutions.

Paul has been with ANZ New Zealand since 2004, where he was previously Head of Institutional Relationships. He has also held senior corporate finance roles at Credit Suisse and The National Bank of New Zealand and worked for Ernst & Young in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Mark Hiddleston

Mark leads the Commercial & Agri business in New Zealand representing teams that deliver relationship management to customers with annual turnover ranging from $2-$250m. The Commercial & Agri business includes UDC Finance and Property Finance.

Recent roles at ANZ include Commercial & Agri General Manager Auckland & Northland, Head of Specialised Lending, Head Debt Syndication and he established ANZ’s Corporate Leveraged Finance team.  

Mark has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector covering a broad range of roles and organisations in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He’s currently on the Board of UDC Finance.

Bruce Macintyre

Bruce leads New Zealand’s risk management function including wholesale and retail credit risk, market, operating and compliance risk, as well as lending services, portfolio reporting and provisioning functions. Bruce has more than 26 years of experience in banking, starting out with The National Bank, including experience in managing the wholesale banking operational risk and compliance, lending services and credit risk functions. He is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Liz Maguire

Liz leads the digital transformation at ANZ, creating market leading digital capability to improve customer and staff experience.

Prior to her current role Liz led a $100m programme to update, reconfigure and relocate the ANZ NZ branch network. She also led the Retail stream of ANZ’s highly successful brand and technology change, and has managed the Retail self-service channels including internet banking, mobile banking, websites, ATMs and phone banking.

Liz has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector covering a wide range of leadership roles in products, marketing, business support and channel management in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Craig Mulholland

Craig is responsible for the wealth business in New Zealand, which includes ANZ’s funds management and insurance businesses.  Prior to accepting this role, Craig was General Counsel and Company Secretary, responsible for legal and corporate governance matters for ANZ and its New Zealand businesses.  He has more than 25 years’ experience in commercial and legal roles across a range of industries in New Zealand and overseas.  Before joining ANZ in 2011, Craig held senior positions in large listed and private companies, and prior to this worked in a leading private legal practice in New Zealand. Craig has extensive governance experience as a director on private and joint venture companies in a number of jurisdictions.

Peter Parussini

Peter is responsible for ANZ’s external and internal communications, government relations, corporate social responsibility and customer relations. Peter has more than 30 years’ experience in corporate communications and affairs, including international affairs, mergers and acquisitions, national and education campaigns, sports marketing, journalism and local and central government. Peter has won national and international public relations awards, has been recognised for his work in low decile schools, is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Stewart Taylor

Stewart is responsible for Finance, Taxation, Treasury and Internal Audit in New Zealand. Stewart joined ANZ in 2007 and has held a number of roles including Head of Finance for our Commercial & Agri business and Divisional Financial Controller. He began his career at Deloitte in London, before going on to work for Invesco and State Street. After moving to New Zealand he worked for KiwiBank, finishing as Group Financial Controller. Stewart has a Bachelor of Arts (honours) in economics and is a chartered accountant.

Antonia Watson

Antonia is responsible for our Retail and Business Banking business, which includes our network of retail branches, contact centres and banking specialists who take care of over two million consumer and small business customers. Prior to accepting this role, Antonia was ANZ New Zealand’s Chief Financial Officer. Antonia joined ANZ from Morgan Stanley, where she was General Manager of their business services and technology centre in Budapest and had various Finance roles in Sydney and London. She qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG.

The Board is responsible for the governance and overall direction of the organisation, considering the needs of shareholders, staff and the community.

Sir John Key

Rt Hon Sir John Key was appointed to the Board in October 2017. A graduate of the University of Canterbury, Sir John started his career in banking and finance in New Zealand with McCulloch Menzies, Lane Walker Rudkin, Elders Merchant Finance and Bankers Trust New Zealand before working for Merrill Lynch in Singapore, London and New York.

In the US he became Head of Global Foreign Exchange with Merrill Lynch. He was also made a member of the Foreign Exchange Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Sir John was the Member of Parliament for Helensville from 2002 and New Zealand’s 38th Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism from 2008 until 2016 when he announced his retirement from politics. He was made a Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

In 2017 Sir John also received Australia’s highest honour, becoming a Companion of the Order of Australia for advancing the Australia-New Zealand bilateral relationship.

Shayne Elliott

Shayne Elliott is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ANZ, a position he was appointed to on 1 January 2016. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Shayne was Chief Financial Officer of ANZ, having held that position since June 2012. In that role, Shayne was responsible for all aspects of Finance as well as Legal, Treasury and Investor Relations, as well as having responsibility for Group Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions. Shayne joined ANZ (and the ANZ New Zealand Board) in June 2009 as the Chief Executive Officer, Institutional, overseeing all businesses that deal with ANZ's large business, corporate and institutional customers. Previously, Shayne was Head of Business Development at EFG Hermes, the largest investment bank in the Middle East, and spent more than 20 years at Citigroup.

Tony Carter

Tony Carter joined the Board in August 2011. From 2001 to 2010, Tony was Managing Director of Foodstuffs (Auckland) and Foodstuffs (New Zealand), New Zealand's largest retail organisation. He has extensive experience in retail and has owned and operated several Mitre 10 hardware stores, and was a director and Chairman of Mitre 10 New Zealand Limited. Tony is the Chairman of Air New Zealand Limited, Fletcher Building Limited, Fletcher Building and Finance Limited and Vector Limited and he is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Management.

Joan Withers

Joan Withers has an extensive career in management and governance roles in New Zealand’s media and became an independent Director of our company in July 2013.  Joan is the former CEO of Fairfax Media and The Radio Network and is the Deputy Chairperson of Television New Zealand. She is also the Chair of Mighty River Power Ltd and is on the advisory board of The Treasury.

Joan is a trustee of the Tindall Foundation and the Louise Perkins Foundation (Sweet Louise). She also chairs the steering group for Grow Our Own Workforce, a project that provides a pipeline for Maori and Pacifika students in South Auckland aspiring to achieve a career in the health sector within the Counties Manukau District Health Board.  She has an MBA from the University of Auckland and is the author of "A Girl's Guide to Business" which was published by Penguin in 1998.

Mark Verbiest

Mark Verbiest was appointed to the Board in October 2013. Mark has extensive experience in telecommunications, corporate governance and the digital economy. He brings a wealth of knowledge gained from a variety of sectors, including SOEs, Government bodies and the private sector. He is currently Chairman of Spark New Zealand Limited, Transpower New Zealand Limited and Willis Bond Capital Partners Limited. He is also a Director of Freightways Limited. 

Michelle Jablko

Michelle Jablko
Non-executive Director

Michelle Jablko started her career as a lawyer at Allens Linklaters before becoming a Managing Director of UBS Australia and then going on to be Managing Director and Co-Head of Greenhill Australia. In 2016 she joined ANZ as its Chief Financial Officer bringing with her 15 years of experience in investment banking. During this time, she worked across different industries, including financial services, providing advice to Australian companies on strategy, capital management and funding, and investor relations. Michelle graduated with First Class Honours in Law and Honours in Economics from Monash University in Melbourne.
