Options to help you through financial difficulty

If you’re worried about your situation, it’s important to talk to us early – don’t wait until you are in financial trouble if you can see it coming.

If you're eligible, options include financial hardship assistance or KiwiSaver significant hardship withdrawal. We also have options to support you with financial difficulty, from tips to managing money to restructuring loans.

Financial hardship assistance

Financial hardship assistance is available if you have a loan, credit card or overdraft with us.

You must also be experiencing financial hardship because of:

  • Job loss
  • A reduction in income
  • An illness or injury affecting your ability to earn
  • A relationship breakdown
  • A natural disaster affecting your income or household
  • An unforeseen significant event affecting your finances.

If eligible, our dedicated hardship team can work with you to manage your debts.

KiwiSaver significant hardship withdrawal

It's important to explore other options before applying for KiwiSaver early withdrawal.

If you’re experiencing significant financial hardship and you're unable to pay for:

  • Essential living expenses such as power, water, and food
  • Mortgage, rental or board payments
  • Modifications needed for your home to meet special needs if you or a dependent have a disability
  • Necessary medical treatment for you or a dependent family member
  • Funeral costs if a dependent family member dies.

You may be eligible to withdraw some of your KiwiSaver savings early.
