James: We have a local fridge. We like to keep that fridge full of local produce for our community.
[Text on screen: Walking the talk with James Stembridge Agri Relationship Manager, ANZ]
James: I’m James Stembridge, I'm from a little place north of Waikato, called Auckland.
[Text on screen: Can you tell us about yourself?]
James: My farm’s based in Matangi. We grow seasonal produce, so broccolis, kales, and winter veggies, and we grow flowers.
[Text on screen: Can you tell us about your community involvement?]
James: We have a local fridge that's just outside the early childcare centre that is just an honesty box system. So, we just like having that presence in the community for people to be able have that opportunity to get fresh food. And that brings us, you know, a lot of sense of belonging for being in that community too, in Matangi.
[Text on screen: What is your number one tip for farmers in the agri industry?]
James: For me, I think it's about getting a really good team around you. So, you're partnering with your bank, accountants, farm advisors, whoever it may be, I think you want to choose a really good team, and those people who back you, the people who know your business, and you're not having to do everything yourself, and you're getting the best advice to grow your business.

Supporting remote rural farming
Deep in the King Country, farming challenges look a little different, but Katherine as an ANZ Agri Relationship Manager is there every step of the way to add value, offer guidance, and build lasting relationships with farmers.

Katherine: The three things that come to mind when somebody talks to me about the agri industry are the people that are involved in the industry, the fantastic products that are produced by the industry, and the rural way of life.
[Text on screen: Walking the talk with Katherine Riley Agri Relationship Manager, ANZ]
Katherine: My name is Katherine Riley. I'm from Te Rauamoa, been there for a bit over 20 years on a family sheep and beef farm.
[Text on screen: Can you tell us about yourself?]
Katherine: My journey of farming and banking, I guess has always kind of coexisted. They fulfil two passions of mine, I guess, and one is on the farming side of things and specifically sheep and beef farming, but the other being, having good relationships with them to understand what's really important to them, and help them achieve that.
[Text on screen: What advice would you give to someone who wanted to get into agri?]
Katherine: Give it a go. Be really clear on what your ‘why’ is. It can be challenging at times. You really need to look after yourself, so that then you can look after your business, and others that are important to you around you.

Transcript – Building thriving farming communities
Tania: It’s about empowering women and creating thriving farming communities.
[Text on screen: Walking the talk with Tania Clark Agri Relationship Manager, ANZ]
Tania: My name’s Tania Clark. I am a relationship manager at ANZ, and I’m based out of the Matamata office, and I cover the south Waikato.
[Text on screen: What’s one thing in banking you couldn’t live without?]
Tania: Oh, one thing in banking I couldn't live without. The coffee machine. And my calculator. My coffee machine and my calculator.
[Text on screen: Can you tell us about yourself?]
Tania: I grew up on dairy farms around Waikato and Southland. I'm really passionate about bringing people together. So, I'm a volunteer regional leader for Dairy Woman's Network. I'm also an active member of Rural Woman, and a volunteer baker for Good Bitches Baking, spreading kindness, one treat at a time to people that are going through a bit of a tough time. I’m also really involved with the local rugby clubs and schools, and fundraising and volunteering in that space.
[Text on screen: What’s something you want to help your agri customers with the most?]
The one thing I'd like to help my customers with the most. Just having a good relationship with the bank. I think it's so, so important. We should be one of the first people that you're talking to and starting a conversation with, so that you can start the story and sort of plan, make a strategy and move forward.
So, it's really important to me to have a open, honest conversation and relationship with my customers.
