ANZ Direct Online (ADO) phone impersonation scams
November 2025
Scammers are currently targeting businesses and ADO users.
Customers are receiving phone calls from scammers impersonating the ANZ fraud team and other ANZ bank staff. The calls may appear to be from an ANZ phone number or a New Zealand or Australian (+61) number.
Scammers say there’s unauthorised activity on the customer’s account, directing them to a fake website and requesting they click on a live chat link which gives the scammer remote access to their device. They then ask the customer to log into ADO while they’re remotely connected, attempting to get their ADO login credentials.
Customers are being tricked into:
- Granting remote access to their devices
- Disclosing ADO response codes believing that they’re securing their banking or reversing fraud transactions
- Disclosing personal and banking information including how they send money overseas if they do not use ANZ Direct Online.
When someone gains remote access to your device it could allow them access to your online banking to make payments using your device, or to steal your personal details and any data saved on that device to then impersonate you.
These calls are not from ANZ. Do not follow these instructions. Hang up and call the number listed on our website to speak to an ANZ staff member.
Our fraud team may call customers from time to time to verify unusual transactions.
However, we will never ask you:
- For your banking passwords, PINs, or two-factor authentication codes
- For your full credit card details
- To transfer money to a 'safe' account, purchase gift cards, or set up crypto currency accounts
- To download software or remotely access your device.
Remember:
