Marie: So when you're growing, it's really hard. It's really hard to forecast because you don't know what customers are going to come on board and you don't know how much you're going to sell.

Marie: Hi, my name is Marie Glading. I'm the founder of Evre Skincare, a natural teen skincare range. This is our offices in Ponsonby, and we're taking Evre to the world.

My daughter at the time was 12. She had a few pimples. I said, surely there's got to be a brand out there that gets my tick of approval as a mum. But will also appeal to her age and stage of life. We have some huge growth objectives at Evre. We want to be the largest personal care brand globally for teens and tweens.

New Zealand is an amazing place to start a business but I think the challenge comes in the nature of us being at the bottom of the world, having a very small population and if you have anything that's slightly niche, it's very hard to scale.

Marie: Because you have such high MOQs, you have to order large quantities of packaging. So what was really hard in the beginning is buying that packaging, sitting on that stock and just not knowing when you're going to sell it.

And I saw this amazing opportunity with ANZ Business Boost to get the support that I needed to help me and my business growth. So I'm definitely financially literate but I'm not great at it. So I worked with Aimee in my last business, and I knew when the time was right in this business, that she was definitely the person I had to bring on board.

Marie: I really wanted someone who could come in, hit the ground running and really grab all that information we had and build really strong financials for us.

Aimee: I'm Aimee from In Good Company and we're a financial management and accounts team and we help businesses grow. With the support of the ANZ Business Boost programme, we've helped Evre to build a financial management program and operational systems to support their growth.

[Text on screen: Step #2: Build a financial management programme]

Marie: Our main objectives with the ANZ Business Boost programme was to get a really good understanding of our financials. I wanted strong P&L forecasts and strong cash flow statements, so we knew on a monthly and even sometimes weekly basis what we were spending and what was coming in the door.

[Text on screen: Step #3: Create robust financial reporting including profit & loss and cashflow statements]

Aimee: So the spotlight reporting package has like your basic P&L balance sheet and cash flow summaries. And so by having these tools in place who were able to forecast and that will allow us to ensure that we have enough cash and runway to get us through that growth.

Marie: So this journey has been amazing for me, because it's meant that I can focus on the things that I'm really good at, which has allowed me to be able to free up my time to focus on where I feel I can have the biggest impact in the business, which is in sales and getting out into market, and also developing our marketing plan and our strong innovation plan.

[Text on screen: Win #2: Focus on sales and marketing]

Marie: We're in over 700 stores now. By the end of the year, we want to be in two thousand and by mid next year we want to be in three thousand.

[Text on screen: Win #3: Clear roadmap for growth]

Marie: Having the NZ Business Boost has been amazing. So now we know exactly what our costs are and exactly how much money we've got to spend. So when a retailer comes to us and says can you do X, Y and Z? I can say yes or no. There's so many exciting things in Evre’s future. So we've got plans to expand into adjacent categories and expand within skincare. And of course, we want to look at different international markets. And with the help of Aimee and the ANZ Business Boost, we're able to have clarity around our financials. So we have a really strong platform to scale and grow profitably.
