About this fund and who it may suit

The Growth Fund aims for high long-term returns, allowing for large ups and downs in value.

This fund could suit investors looking to grow their KiwiSaver savings over the long term, who are comfortable with large changes in value and don't expect to access their savings for many years.

Minimum suggested investment timeframe is 7 or more years. The minimum suggested timeframe indicates how long to stay invested to manage short-term ups and downs and give your investment time to recover from any drops in value.

How risk affects volatility

The risk indicator for this fund is 5, on a scale from 1 (low) to 7 (high). The rating reflects how much the value of the fund’s assets goes up and down (volatility). A higher risk means higher potential returns over time, but more ups and downs along the way.

Fund insights for last quarter

What happened this quarter (three months to 30 September 2026)

The fund has a significant allocation to shares, making them the primary driver of performance. Global share markets experienced a volatile quarter as renewed hostilities in the Middle East pushed oil prices higher and fuelled concerns that inflation could remain elevated for longer. Despite this uncertainty, international share markets delivered modest gains overall.

In the US, share markets were supported by another strong earnings season, with many companies continuing to report resilient profits despite a more challenging economic backdrop. New Zealand shares also rose over the quarter, although returns were more modest as inflation pressures and higher interest rates continued to weigh on the domestic economy.

While share markets proved relatively resilient, rising inflation concerns also prompted several central banks to raise interest rates. In the US, the Federal Reserve increased interest rates for the first time since 2023, while the European Central Bank also moved rates higher. In New Zealand, the Reserve Bank increased the Official Cash Rate twice, taking it to 2.75%, and signalled that further increases may be required. Expectations that interest rates could remain higher for longer weighed on bond markets and other interest rate-sensitive assets.

Performance reflected a mixed environment across financial markets. International share investments delivered positive returns and were the main contributor to performance. However, gains from equities were partly offset by weakness in bonds, property and infrastructure assets as rising interest rates weighed on valuations.

Looking ahead, inflation and interest rate expectations are likely to remain key drivers of market performance. While uncertainty remains elevated, the fund remains diversified across regions and asset classes and continues to focus on delivering long-term growth.
