ANZ phone number impersonation scam

August 2026

We’re aware of customers receiving cold calls from scammers impersonating ANZ. These scammers can make calls appear to come from a genuine ANZ phone number. In some cases, the number displayed has matched an ANZ contact number listed on our website, and callers may encourage customers to search the number online to convince them the call is legitimate.

Even if the number on your screen looks like a genuine ANZ phone number, the call may not be from ANZ.

Scammers may try to gain your trust and obtain personal or banking information. They can be very convincing, may have access to some of your personal details, and often create a sense of urgency or fear to pressure you into acting quickly.

ANZ will never ask you to:

  • Share your ANZ goMoney, Internet Banking, or ADO login details, full card details, or two-factor authentication codes
  • Allow remote access or screen sharing on your devices
  • Transfer money to a ‘safe’ account, buy gift cards, set up cryptocurrency accounts, or click links to fake live chats.

If you're unsure whether a caller is genuinely from ANZ, hang up and contact us using the phone number or contact method listed on our official website, or ask the caller to verify themselves using ANZ Caller Check.

Protect yourself with ANZ Caller Check

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from ANZ, ask them to verify themselves using ANZ Caller Check.

ANZ Caller Check allows you to confirm you're speaking with a genuine ANZ team member by sending a secure notification directly to your goMoney app.

If the caller cannot send an ANZ Caller Check notification to your goMoney app, hang up immediately and contact ANZ using the phone number or contact method listed on our official website.

Remember: Genuine ANZ Caller Check notifications are only sent to your goMoney app. If you receive a Caller Check verification request by SMS, email, WhatsApp, or any other messaging platform, it is a scam.

How to help protect yourself

  • Never disclose your banking login details, passwords, full credit card details and two-factor authentication codes to anyone. ANZ will never ask for this information.
  • Never click links, download attachments or call numbers in unknown, unexpected or suspicious messages. Only access Internet Banking through the official ANZ website.
  • If you receive a suspicious message or call, hang up and contact ANZ directly using the phone number or contact method listed on our official website.

Always pause and reassess the situation. Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to act quickly.
