eVerify Terms

Effective 20 March 2024

About these terms

You agree to these terms when you use eVerify to verify your identity online.

  • eVerify is a system, managed by a third party, that ANZ uses to verify a person’s identity online.
  • You agree ANZ can verify your identity online by:
    -  using images you submit to eVerify from your compatible mobile or smart device, rather than physical identification documents, and
    -  matching or checking those images and your details against information held by others, including document issuers or official record holders.
  • When providing information for someone else, you confirm you have their written consent to provide their information and for their information to be matched and verified, including by third parties, as above.
  • We may suspend or stop use of eVerify at any time, but if this happens, you can verify your identity in other ways.
  • In these terms, ANZ, we, us, or our refers to ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited, and any companies owned by, or related to, us. You and your refers to the person using eVerify, either as ANZ’s customer or as that customer’s authorised signatory.
  • New Zealand law applies to these terms.

You must meet our eligibility criteria to use eVerify

To use eVerify you must:

  • be over 18 years of age
  • hold a current New Zealand driver’s licence or New Zealand passport
  • have a compatible mobile or smart device (Apple iOS operating system 7 or above, or Android™ operating system 5 or above).

If you don’t meet these eligibility criteria, we can’t confirm your identity using eVerify, and we’ll need to verify you by some other way.

What personal information we collect

Our privacy statement sets out how we collect and use your personal information, including when we verify your identity online. See Privacy at ANZ.

To verify your identity online, we need to collect and use your contact details and images of your identification and face (including a video of you), using these features on your mobile or smart device:

  • your camera
  • your location

We may use your location from your mobile or smart device for security purposes, but we don’t need the information to verify your identity. We do use your address to verify your identity, but we don’t record this or update any of your existing details with us.

Our third-party provider may transfer the personal information you provide using eVerify to a cloud server based in Sydney, Australia.

How we act on instructions in eVerify

You’ll receive an email from IDkit (on behalf of ANZ) with a verification link, which is key to using eVerify.

You must open the eVerify link from a compatible mobile or smart device, as you’ll need a camera to complete photo and video identification.

  • Until that verification link is used or expires, you must keep the link secure and must not share it with anyone — we outline ways to keep your devices and information secure on protecting yourself from fraud.
  • The verification link we send is unique to you. You must not let someone else submit their identity documents using that verification link.
  • Please tell us immediately if you think someone may have accessed your mobile or smart device, or email, or used your verification link.

You agree we can:

  • use your details to send you an email containing a verification link to let you access eVerify
  • confirm your identity using eVerify without checking you’re using it or have authorised it, if documents or images are submitted using the verification link we sent you via email
  • rely on any documents or images provided using eVerify as being accurate, complete, and up to date, without checking those documents or images with you, and
  • where we believe it’s needed, ask you for more information or documents before verifying your identity using eVerify, or, if we can’t confirm your identity using eVerify, we’ll need to verify you by some other way.

Our liability when you use eVerify

To the extent the law allows and unless there is any gross negligence, wilful misconduct or fraud on our part, we’re not liable for any loss or damage caused to you or to your mobile or smart device (as relevant):

  • from using or attempting to use eVerify, if:
    -  you were fraudulent, negligent, or contributed to the loss, including by breaching these terms, or
    -  your loss was caused by something outside our control, like a malfunction of equipment, third-party services or materials supporting eVerify
  • because you can't access or use eVerify.

We also won’t be liable to anyone else for any consequential loss arising from any of the above.

Access to eVerify and changes to these terms

We don’t charge for using eVerify, but your mobile provider or internet provider may charge for their services.

eVerify is generally available, 24 hours, 365 days a year, except for downtime for system maintenance or activities by software, network, or internet service providers.

If we need to update the eVerify terms, we’ll let you know at least 14 days before any changes on Changes to ANZ rates, fees and agreements.
