Your ANZ card, password, PIN and Customer Number are key to accessing your accounts electronically, (including by phone and/or mobile phone). Their security is very important.
These Guidelines are designed to help you keep your card, password, PIN and customer numbers secure. Liability for unauthorised transactions will be determined under the relevant Terms and Conditions for the electronic banking service you are using.

To help protect your password and PIN you must:
- not keep a record of your password or PIN or write it down anywhere, even if it is disguised
- not use the same password or PIN for more than one electronic banking service
- never disclose your password or PIN to any person, including family members or those in apparent authority, including ANZ staff or the police
- not negligently or recklessly disclose your password or PIN (by, for example, failing to take reasonable care when keying it in to prevent others from identifying it)
- not choose a password or PIN that is easily identified with you or based on easily accessible personal data
(for example, your date of birth, telephone number, street name, your name or any part of your name)
- choose a password that is as meaningless as possible and not choose a password or PIN that is easily identifiable or a sequential combination of numbers or letters
- change passwords regularly (including your Internet Banking password after any spyware or viruses have been removed from the computer)
- and notify ANZ immediately if you suspect that your password or PIN has become known to a third party.
To help prevent unauthorised access to your account(s) through your use of ANZ Phone Banking or Mobile Phone Banking you must:
- take all reasonable steps necessary to prevent unauthorised use of your Mobile Device, Mobile Phone Banking or Phone Banking, such as locking your Mobile Device when not in use
- delete all Mobile Phone Banking messages to or from ANZ
- change your ANZ Phone Banking PIN on a regular basis;
- not leave your Mobile Device unattended; and
- notify ANZ immediately if your Mobile Device is lost or stolen or if you change your Mobile Device or Mobile Device phone number.
Mobile Device is a device which communicates with ANZ via SMS.
To help prevent unauthorised access to your account(s) through your use of Internet Banking, you must:
- ensure no one is observing you when you enter your customer number, password or PIN;
- not click on links embedded within emails, rather enter www.anz.co.nz directly into your browser address bar;
- never click the “save my password/details” option sometimes offered or set up your browser to “autocomplete” your login details;
- ensure there is a padlock symbol in the bottom right corner of your browser;
- not leave your computer unattended and logged into Internet Banking;
- always log out of your Internet Banking session when you have finished;
- never change your security details in a public place;
- not use public computers, such as those in internet cafes, for Internet Banking as these computers may not be safe;
- ensure you use computers that have up to date anti-virus software installed; and
- follow our reasonable security warnings about processes and safeguards when using Internet Banking.
If your card has been lost or stolen or you suspect someone has been using the card, contact ANZ immediately:
- for credit cards: 0800 658 044 (international +64 9 522 3010) 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
- for ATM/EFTPOS cards: 0800 650 535 (international +64 4 470 5019) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If you suspect that your password or PIN has become known to a third party, contact the ANZ Internet Banking team on 0800 269 296 (international +64 4 470 3142) 24 hours a day, seven days a week to have your password reset.
