Our Return to Work programme is designed to help you transition back into the technology workforce.

About the programme

ANZ's Return to Work (RTW) programme is designed for people who have taken a career break and would like help transitioning back into the technology workforce.

This programme helps guide our returners back into the tech industry. Providing constant support and check-ins with your team leader to help work out where we can help lessen your load. 

Be part of a culture of a supportive and collaborative culture that can help you get back into the workforce - at your own pace.

Programme objectives

Our programme aims to break down the barriers and build an environment around:

Empowering

Helping you to define your own path in tech, whether that is finding the right career for you or setting up your own business.

Accessible

Helping to remove any barriers by offering benefits such as flexible start times, remote learning and building connections with child care providers.

Inclusive

Welcoming returners from diverse backgrounds, ages, experience. We are non-judgemental about your route to returnship.

Collaborative

Working with our returners, mentors and our advocates to provide as many opportunities as possible to develop your journey.

These are run out of Australia. We learn how to grow confidences and resilience.

20-week programme

We provide as much flexibility and understanding as possible.

  1. Apply online.
  2. Online assessment for shortlisted developers.
  3. Video interview.
  4. Interview with a manager.
  5. Pre-employment checks (done by a manager).

“Took a career break with my youngest when I had the chance, and then when she started school I hit the recruiters hard and got nowhere; and then Covid lockdown #1 hit us.

It was a delight to be back in the office, to have input into projects, to realise that I still had something to offer. My IT experiences were still relevant and that ANZ had seen that!

The RTW programme flew past in the blink of an eye, and then I was offered a permanent role, and I’m still learning and powering through.

Two things stick out for me:

On the day I met the team, I had arrived early and was mulling about outside the building. A staff member, on their way to the coffee cart, came over to ask if I was okay and had what I needed. It was such a small thing, but that little bit of extra care made me think ‘this must be a good place to work’, and I was right!

Like other companies, the ‘who we are’ and ‘how we operate’ is listed on the website, and it was a genuine pleasure to realise that this is actually true!”

“I took a break from my career to look after my baby and was thinking about getting back to the workforce when my son turned one. That’s when I first came across ANZ’s Return To Work programme through a LinkedIn post in 2019. I applied for RTW programme in 2021, got selected and was on cloud nine.

As I was nearing the programme start date, I started to get nervous more than my excitement because I took a career break of around three years and I felt like I was outdated and forgot many things about work. 

RTW felt like a tailor fit programme for me and it gave me an excellent opportunity to learn new things, get myself updated with the current trend and more than everything, it helped me regain my confidence. 

My project team and RTW programme team were really supportive, considerate, had regular catch-ups with me and made sure that I was feeling comfortable and getting the most use of the programme. I wasn’t nervous anymore and started to contribute to the project work.

After successfully completing five months with the return to work programme, now I am a permanent member of the ANZ family working for an amazing team. Thanks to RTW which had a positive impact in my life and my career.”
