What you need to know
Check you're eligible to open a bank account
You can apply if you:
- Are in New Zealand or arriving within 90 days
- Have a valid Visa with at least six months remaining
- Are 13 years old or over.
Account types
Everyday accounts – can be used for receiving your pay and making day-to-day transactions. Once we’ve confirmed your identity, you can apply for an ANZ Visa Debit or EFTPOS card.
Savings accounts – can earn interest when you start depositing money before you arrive. ANZ Visa Debit or EFTPOS cards are not available with savings accounts.
Who can complete the application?
The person who will be the account holder must complete the application.
If someone else, such as an immigration agency, is completing the application on behalf of the account holder, you must let us know by emailing movetonz@anz.com and including your application reference number. Otherwise, we won’t be able to process the application.
