How it works

Open your account in 3 simple steps:

Apply online

  • Apply online within 90 days of your arrival to New Zealand
  • Once you’ve submitted your application, we’ll email you asking for a copy of your passport(s) and a copy of your visa from Immigration New Zealand (if applicable).
  • Once we've received everything we need, we'll email within 3 working days with confirmation of your account details and how to pre-book a branch appointment.

 

Account opened with limited access 

         Before you arrive in New Zealand you can:

  • Transfer funds into your account
  • Pre-book a branch appointment for a date and time which suits you.

Full account access

  • Activate your account upon arrival to New Zealand by attending an ANZ branch appointment to complete your identity check.

Note, you can open additional accounts once you’re a customer.

 

No transaction fees, and no monthly account fee if you meet the minimum monthly deposit of at least $2,500 each month

With a Resident or Work Visa, you may be eligible for our Migrant Banking Package.

Package benefits include:

If you're 21 or over and applying for Jumpstart, or applying for lending benefits only available to tertiary students, you must be enrolled at and provide proof of full time study at a government recognised tertiary institution or a NZQA approved language school. When applying for lending benefits you must have a minimum of 6 months remaining on your course. International students are only eligible to apply for an ANZ Credit Card.

A monthly account fee of $5 will apply if the $2,500 minimum deposit is not met. Deposits exclude transfers between any of your ANZ accounts.

Automated transactions include EFTPOS, Visa Debit, ATM, and mobile wallet transactions, as well as all electronic payments and other transactions made using ANZ Internet Banking, goMoney, Phone Banking, and ANZ Direct Online.

Manual transactions include transactions handled by our staff for you, including at a branch, by phone, or online. Balances and basic account enquiries at a branch are free. We process any deposits received through ANZ Fast Deposit Boxes as staff-assisted, manual transactions.

Must be 13 years or over to apply for an ANZ Visa Debit card.

The Visa Debit annual card fee will be waived if the card is linked to an ANZ Freedom or ANZ Jumpstart account. It will also be waived for the first 12 months for a new card linked to an ANZ Go account (after 12 months you will be charged an annual card fee of $10). For all other accounts you will be charged an annual card fee of $10.
