It’s easy to switch your banking to ANZ.

We can help you change banks.

Or if you prefer, you can manage it yourself.

It’s your choice. Either way, it’s free, and it’s more straightforward than you might think. Below you can find out what’s involved.

Just come into any branch with the account numbers of your existing accounts, credit cards, and bank loans that you want to switch to ANZ.

We can help by:

  • opening your new accounts, credit cards and bank loans
  • setting you up with our ways to bank, such as ANZ Internet Banking
  • liaising with your current bank on your behalf
  • transferring your balance to your new accounts and credit cards
  • transferring any existing payments1; automatic payments, direct debits and bill payments to your new accounts for you
  • closing your old accounts2
  • contacting you when it’s all done. Please allow 14 days to close your old accounts.

1. Transactional and saving accounts only. It can take up to 5 days to receive payment information from your previous bank and certain direct debit organisations may require direct contact from you.

2. Transactional and saving accounts only.

Depending on your situation you may need to:

  • give your employer your new account details if you have your salary direct credited
  • make sure any cheques from your old account are presented before it’s closed
  • notify your solicitor if you’re changing home loans
  • notify organisations of your new credit card details and close your current card
  • repay and close your current personal loan.

Other information you may need to bring with you:

  • If you don’t already have accounts with ANZ already you’ll also need to bring:
    • documents confirming your identity.  Examples of acceptable forms of identification can be found at anz.co.nz/id or any ANZ branch
    • a piece of mail addressed to your residential address from the last three months.  Examples of acceptable forms of address verification can be found at anz.co.nz/id or any ANZ branch
  • If you want a credit card or loan you’ll need to bring evidence of your income (e.g. recent original pay slip or tax certificate) and details of your current financial position (income & expenses (e.g. your budget), assets (things you own) and liabilities (what you owe e.g. car loans, hire purchase etc).
