What happened this quarter (three months to 30 June 2025)

  • In New Zealand, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand cut the Official Cash Rate (OCR) twice, bringing it down to 3.25%. In a surprising move, one committee member voted to keep rates unchanged at the May meeting, prompting a formal vote that resulted in a 5-1 decision to cut the OCR.
  • Economic data provided mixed signals. Q1 GDP growth came in strongly at 0.8%, exceeding most forecasts, while the unemployment rate held steady at 5.1%.
  • Amid the broader market volatility, cash stood out as a resilient asset class, delivering stable and positive returns while preserving capital.

What does the fund invest in?

The fund invests mainly in cash and cash equivalents. These may include investments issued by New Zealand-registered banks, the New Zealand Government, corporations or local authorities, or non-New Zealand governments.
