Travel Money

These days, it’s convenient to use a mixture of travel money options. It's easy to access foreign cash when you're travelling and there are convenient ways to make purchases overseas. Talk to ANZ, we’ve got solutions for your travel money needs.

Credit and Visa Debit cards

  • When you’re travelling overseas, take your ANZ creditdisclaimer or Visa Debit cards with you. You can use them to make purchases and get cash in millions of places around the world.
  • If you want the option of using your card to access funds from your everyday account to make purchases overseas you'll need a Visa Debit card - if you have an existing EFTPOS card, you can upgrade to a Visa Debit card. You must be 13 or over to get a Visa Debit card. 
  • ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum card has features like Overseas Travel Insurancedisclaimer and the chance to earn Airpoints Dollars™ on your credit card spend.
  • We've reduced our currency conversion charge to just 1.3%, so you pay less for foreign currency transactions with your Credit and Visa Debit cards, both online and overseas. 

Foreign currency cash

Important update: ANZ stopped accepting foreign exchange cash transactions from 14 November 2020.

Overseas ATMs

  • We do not charge an Overseas ATM fee for using, or withdrawing money from, an ATM outside of New Zealand. This means ANZ customers can enjoy the convenience of using any ATM around the world. Please note that banks and other financial institutions who own overseas ATMs may charge a fee for using them. Currency conversion charges of 1.3% of the NZD amount also apply to foreign transactions.
  • We also have ANZ ATMs in Australia and many other countries in the Asia Pacific region. Use goMoney's 'FIND ANZ' feature or our ANZ global locator to find an ANZ ATM near you when you’re overseas.

  • ANZ goMoneydisclaimer is a fast and secure way to check your balances, transfer money, pay bills and make payments from your smartphone or tablet.
  • With ANZ Internet Bankingdisclaimer you can manage your accounts online, anytime and anywhere.
  • ANZ Phone Banking allows you to speak to a real person and securely move money around your ANZ accounts 24/7.
  • Currency by ANZdisclaimer is your must-have app for currency conversion and indicative foreign exchange rates, on the go. 

Travellers' cheques

  • We no longer accept travellers’ cheques, unless they were issued by ANZ New Zealand and are deposited into an ANZ New Zealand bank account.
