Arriving in New Zealand - Accounts

Arriving in New Zealand

When you arrive in New Zealand the first step will be to activate your new ANZ account so that you can avail yourself of our extensive banking services.

Before you arrive, the ANZ New Resident Services Team in New Zealand will have organised the most convenient branch to have your banking products ready for you. To activate your accounts in New Zealand, you will need to bring:

  • your passport (original, not a photocopy)
  • your account details (in your welcome letter)
  • confirmation of your New Zealand address.

If you didn't set up an account before you left your home country, simply visit any ANZ branch and we'll help you set up the accounts you need. You'll need to bring your passport and confirmation of your New Zealand address.

Banking services

Once your account is activated, you'll be able to deposit and withdraw funds and apply for other account services you might need, such as:

  • a cheque book
  • an overdraft
  • home loans
  • credit cards
  • phone and Internet banking.

Any monthly account fees accrued on your everyday banking transaction account, only before your account is activated, will be waived on activation in New Zealand. You'll also receive an ANZ Night & Day card so that you can access your account around the clock using ATMs and EFTPOS,* both in New Zealand and overseas. Our friendly staff will review your needs and talk you through your ANZ banking options.

* Note: EFTPOS refers to 'electronic funds transfer at the point of sale' and is one of the most convenient ways of purchasing goods and/or services in New Zealand.
